Residents along the Ibadan Circular Road Corridor have called for improved engagement, greater transparency, and an end to what they described as selective actions affecting their communities.

The affected residents, made up of community leaders, stakeholders, policymakers, and concerned citizens, urged the Oyo State Government to strictly adhere to the gazetted 75 metres on both sides of the road.

They also appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes to intervene in the matter.

The call was made during a peaceful protest held in Ibadan, where hundreds of residents displayed placards expressing concern over developments surrounding the road project.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the Secretary of the affected residents, Olajide Abass, urged the government to respect the original acquisition framework of 75 metres on both sides, as gazetted in 2006 during the administration of Rashidi Ladoja.

Abass also called on the government to ensure that adequate compensation is paid to all affected property owners within the designated right of way before any demolition is carried out. He added that residents whose properties had been previously affected without compensation should also be considered.

He further appealed for the preservation of existing communities located beyond the gazetted boundary, stressing that such areas should not be included in any additional acquisition or expansion plans.

According to him, constructive dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders remain the best path toward achieving a fair and lasting resolution that serves both the interests of the government and the affected communities.

The group also called for sustained advocacy and timely intervention to safeguard the welfare and rights of residents impacted by the project, while urging the state government to prioritise fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency in its engagement with host communities.
