An unconfirmed number of people lost their lives today when a fully loaded petrol tanker lost control, colliding with multiple vehicles and tricycles along the Beere-Oje road in Ibadan.
Eyewitnesses who spoke with Almond FM News in Yoruba said that the tanker, coming from Oja Oba towards the Beere–Oje axis, suffered brake failure, causing it to ram into several public transport vehicles.
The accident, which occured around mid-day disrupted the traffic along the route for a few hours before the arrival of the emergency responders who rushed to the scene to assist victims.
Some of the responders included the Oyo State Fire Service, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, OYRTMA, and police officers.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue, while the injured victims have been taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The incident threw the whole of Beere and Oje communities into confusion and panic as they gathered to decry the trailer brake failure which caused loss of lives and substantial damage to property.
