Police arrest Baruwa after NURTW secretariat takeover

Police on Monday arrested Tajudeen Baruwa after he led members of his faction to seize control of the National Union of Road Transport Workers’ national secretariat in Abuja.

The arrest came just hours after Baruwa and his supporters stormed the union’s headquarters, attempting to take over from the faction led by Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.

The takeover marked a new development in the ongoing leadership dispute between the Baruwa and MC Oluomo factions, which has persisted since 2024.

Although MC Oluomo was elected National President in November 2024, a court ruling later favoured Baruwa. Despite the judgment, both factions have continued to claim leadership of the union, escalating tensions within the organization.
