BREAKING: Baruwa faction takes over NURTW national secretariat, sacks MC Oluomo

A faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers under the leadership of Tajudeen Baruwa on Monday took over the union’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Members of the faction stormed the headquarters early in the day, marking the latest twist in the prolonged leadership crisis within the union.

The internal dispute between the factions loyal to Baruwa and Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has persisted since 2024.

Although members of the union elected MC Oluomo as National President in November 2024, the matter later ended up in court, where judgment was reportedly delivered in favour of Baruwa.

Despite the court ruling, MC Oluomo has continued to function as president, deepening the leadership tussle within the union.

The latest takeover of the secretariat signals a fresh escalation in the battle for control of the union’s leadership and structure.
