The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has urged the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to prioritise welfare interventions for junior-ranked officers, highlighting their crucial role in frontline policing across the country.

Disu made the appeal while receiving the Executive Secretary of the Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, alongside members of its Board of Directors during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Trust Fund, particularly in advancing reforms and improving operational efficiency. The police chief emphasised that junior officers shoulder a significant portion of field operations and therefore require structured and sustained support.

He reiterated his commitment to building a more responsive, technology-driven, and citizen-focused police force through enhanced partnership with the Fund. According to him, improved welfare—such as better housing, accessible healthcare, and timely payment of insurance and benefits—is essential for boosting morale, discipline, and overall performance within the Force.

In his remarks, Sheidu reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting the police through targeted interventions in welfare, training, and operational capacity. He highlighted ongoing efforts, including extensive training programmes for thousands of officers, infrastructure development projects nationwide, and initiatives in housing, healthcare, and smart policing.

He added that the Fund remains focused on strengthening operational readiness, modernising facilities, and aligning its programmes with the strategic priorities of the police.

The engagement comes amid ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force aimed at improving service delivery, enhancing efficiency, and addressing the welfare needs of officers, particularly those in junior ranks who handle the bulk of frontline duties.
