The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Oyo State has deployed 1,705 personnel to key locations across the state as part of measures to boost security ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
State Commandant, Augustine Padonu, disclosed this while briefing officers before their deployment, noting that the personnel have been strategically positioned to ensure effective monitoring of critical public areas.
He explained that the operation covers Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, major highways, and other locations expected to witness large crowds during the festive period. According to him, the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and visitors throughout the celebrations.
Padonu added that specialised units, including surveillance teams, intelligence operatives, counter-terrorism personnel, and emergency response teams, have been placed on high alert to swiftly address any potential security threats.
He further stated that the Corps would work closely with other security agencies to maintain law and order, protect critical infrastructure, and ensure a peaceful atmosphere across the state.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, the commandant warned against any attempt to disrupt public peace, stressing that the Corps would deal decisively with offenders.
He also urged residents to celebrate responsibly, remain law-abiding, and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to help prevent crime and enhance public safety.
