Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted four cocoa farmers at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, located in the Idi-Ayunre area of Ibadan.

The victims were reportedly visiting the facility when the attackers struck. According to an eyewitness who managed to escape, the armed men emerged from the surrounding bush and intercepted their vehicle while they were heading toward one of the institute’s sections.

Security authorities confirmed the incident, noting that swift response efforts led to the rescue of one of the victims, while the individual’s vehicle was also recovered. The rescued victim is currently in safe custody and undergoing further debriefing.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Femi Haruna, has ordered a coordinated operation involving the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to intensify search efforts in the area. Officers have since launched extensive bush-combing operations aimed at locating and rescuing the remaining victims.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of those still in captivity.
