A professor in the Department of Food Technology at the University of Ibadan, Abdulrahman Akinoso, has emerged as chairman of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Akinoso was elected alongside 38 other executive members during the faction’s congress held on Saturday in Ibadan.
Among those elected were Abiola Olaonipekun as Secretary, Latifah Latifu as Women Leader, and A. Adeleke as Youth Leader.
The congress took place at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium and was attended by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the police, other security agencies, and members of the party.
The exercise was supervised by an electoral committee led by Diran Odeyemi as chairman, with Awoniyi Tolulope, Babatunde Gbadamosi, Stepheine Oyechere, Yusuf Abidakun, and Olumide Aguda serving as members, while Phillips Adeniyi served as secretary.
In his inaugural address, Akinoso urged party members to set aside internal differences and focus on strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
He said the responsibilities of the new executive include coordinating party activities, ensuring unity among members, and working towards victory in future elections. He also urged members to actively participate in the party’s upcoming electronic membership registration and mobilise new members as preparations begin toward the 2027 general elections.
