No one can exclude us from World Cup – Iran replies Trump

Iran has insisted that no country has the authority to prevent it from participating in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, responding strongly to remarks made by Donald Trump suggesting that the Iranian national team could face safety risks in the United States.

The Iranian national football team said its qualification for the global tournament was achieved through merit and strong performances on the pitch, stressing that its place in the competition cannot be questioned by any individual or political authority.

In a statement shared on social media, the team emphasised that the World Cup is governed by FIFA and not by any single country or leader. It added that participation in the competition is determined strictly by sporting results and qualification processes established by the international football body.

Iran noted that it secured its place in the tournament after a series of strong and decisive performances during the qualification stages, describing the achievement as a reflection of the determination and dedication of its players and coaching staff.

According to the statement, the Iranian team expressed confidence that no external pressure or political consideration should interfere with the integrity of the competition. The players maintained that once a team qualifies under FIFA’s regulations, its participation cannot be arbitrarily denied.

The team also suggested that if concerns about safety existed, attention should instead be directed at the host nation’s ability to guarantee adequate security for all participating teams and their supporters. It stated that any country hosting such a major international event must demonstrate the capacity to protect athletes, officials and fans from across the world.

The comments were made in reaction to a message posted earlier by Trump, who stated that while the Iranian national team would technically be welcome to attend the tournament, he believed their presence might not be appropriate because of potential risks to their safety.

Trump argued that the current geopolitical situation and heightened tensions involving Iran could make participation in the United States challenging for the team, raising concerns about the security environment during the competition.

The remarks drew widespread attention as preparations continue for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico. The upcoming competition marks the first time the World Cup will be hosted by three nations simultaneously.

The tournament is one of the largest sporting events in the world and is expected to attract millions of spectators, as well as teams from across different continents. Security arrangements and international travel logistics have therefore become important aspects of planning for the event.

Concerns about Iran’s participation intensified following the outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East earlier this year. The conflict, which began after military strikes involving the United States and Israel on February 28, has contributed to rising tensions across the region and increased uncertainty in global political and diplomatic relations.

The situation has prompted speculation about how geopolitical developments could influence international sporting events, particularly those that involve countries currently facing diplomatic or security challenges.

Despite the concerns raised, Trump later posted another message in which he sought to reassure the global community that the World Cup would be a safe and successful event. He emphasised that the United States was looking forward to hosting the tournament and welcoming teams and fans from around the world.

In his message, Trump expressed confidence in the country’s ability to organise the competition and ensure a secure environment for participants and spectators. He also noted that ticket sales for the tournament had been extremely strong, indicating high levels of excitement and anticipation among football fans.

The World Cup remains one of the most prestigious and widely watched sporting events globally, bringing together national teams, supporters and officials from many countries. With months remaining before the competition begins, organisers and participating nations are continuing preparations to ensure that the tournament proceeds smoothly.

Iran’s national team reiterated that football should remain a unifying global sport that transcends political differences, stressing that the World Cup is designed to bring nations together through competition, mutual respect and sportsmanship.

The team maintained that its focus remains on preparing for the tournament and representing the country on the global stage, expressing confidence that the competition will ultimately proceed according to the rules and principles established by FIFA. ⚽🌍
