The Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially relieved the State Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his appointment with immediate effect. The decision is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to reposition the civil service for enhanced efficiency and improved service delivery.

Abdullahi Musa had been serving beyond the expiration of his tenure as Head of Service, which formally ended in 2024, following a government decision to retain him temporarily. Despite controversies surrounding the extension, he continued to oversee the operations of the state civil service.

In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the administration confirmed that the decision to relieve Musa was taken to strengthen discipline, improve efficiency, and ensure effective service delivery across all government institutions in Kano State.

Governor Yusuf acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing Head of Service, appreciating his dedication and commitment to the service of the state during his tenure. The governor wished him success in his future endeavours and prayed for his continued progress in all aspects of life.

The statement also announced the appointment of Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, to serve as Acting Head of Service pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.

Accordingly, the outgoing Head of Service has been directed to hand over the responsibilities of the office to the Acting Head of Service by Wednesday, 11th March 2026, to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of administrative functions in the civil service.
