Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has asked political appointees in his administration who intend to contest elective offices in the 2027 general elections to openly declare their ambitions.

The governor gave the directive on Thursday during the 2026 Iftar programme organised by the Oyo State Government at the frontage of the Banquet Hall, Government House, Agodi, in Ibadan.

Makinde stated that those interested in contesting various political positions should make their intentions public and pursue their ambitions on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He explained that the directive became necessary following claims circulating on social media suggesting that he had not given clearance to political appointees in his administration to seek elective offices, particularly with the election timetable already released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The governor said aspirants are free to begin their political consultations and campaigns, including mounting campaign billboards.

According to him, those concerned about internal issues within the party should simply include the party’s logo on their campaign materials, stressing that there is no restriction on appointees who wish to pursue political offices.

Makinde added that aspirants who remain loyal to the party and committed to the development of the state can count on his support.

He also used the occasion to appreciate Muslim faithful in the state for their prayers, support, and cooperation with his administration, noting that their contributions have played a role in the progress and development recorded in the state.

Earlier, the guest lecturer at the event, Fadilat Onihantu, commended the governor for his leadership style and dedication to the people of the state.

In his remarks, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Daud Akinola, who chaired the event, thanked the governor for consistently organising the Iftar programme and for supporting the Muslim community in the state. He also urged residents to continue praying for the peace and development of the state and the country.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja; Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly Debo Ogundoyin; and the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Iyabo Yerima, among other government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.
