The Independent National Electoral Commission has dismissed a graphic circulating on social media which claims that March 26 has been set as the deadline for government officials seeking elective offices to resign.
In a statement issued on Friday via its verified X account, the commission clarified that the information did not originate from INEC and described the viral graphic as misleading and unverified.
INEC urged members of the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the message, warning that the content could create unnecessary confusion about electoral procedures.
The commission stressed that all official announcements and updates regarding elections are communicated only through its authorised platforms.
According to the electoral body, these include its official website, verified social media accounts, and formal press statements.
INEC therefore encouraged citizens to verify election-related information through these channels before sharing it, noting that the spread of unverified information could mislead the public.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accuracy in disseminating information, assuring Nigerians that it will continue to provide timely and credible updates on electoral matters.
