The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction more than 14,000 litres of seized petrol in Cross River State as part of ongoing efforts to curb smuggling and ensure the products are put to proper use.

Customs officials said the fuel was intercepted during a series of anti-smuggling operations along major border routes known for illegal petroleum trafficking. The seizures followed intensified surveillance aimed at protecting the nation’s economy and preventing the diversion of subsidised fuel to neighbouring countries.

According to the agency, the decision to auction the petrol aligns with standard procedures, allowing members of the public to purchase the products at regulated prices while discouraging further smuggling activities.

The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining crackdowns on economic sabotage, particularly in border communities. It also warned smugglers to desist from illegal activities, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
