Operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), under the leadership of ASP Julius Robinson, have made a significant arrest in Sapele, Delta State, capturing a 21-year-old suspect believed to be involved in a series of armed robberies that have alarmed residents of the area. The arrest occurred in the early hours of March 1, 2026, during a well-coordinated operation aimed at curbing rising incidents of violent crime in the town.
The suspect, identified as Prince Omanure, also known by the alias “Anini,” hails from the Ghana Area of Sapele. Authorities described him as a key member of a motorcycle-riding syndicate that had been terrorizing neighborhoods across Sapele through serial robberies. Local law enforcement said the arrest followed weeks of intelligence gathering, during which community members provided vital information on the activities of the criminal network.
According to police reports, the arrest took place at approximately 03:35 hours, when CP-SAT operatives executed a targeted raid in line with intelligence indicating the suspect’s presence in the area. The swift and precise operation reflects a growing emphasis by the Delta State Police Command on proactive, intelligence-driven policing to dismantle organized criminal gangs and protect vulnerable communities.
During the investigation, the suspect led police operatives to a bush along the Warri–Sapele Road, near the Trailer Park, where a fabricated Beretta pistol, loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition, had been concealed. The discovery of the weapon, though imitation in design, demonstrated the suspect’s intent to commit armed robbery and posed a potential threat to public safety. Authorities noted that the weapon had been carefully hidden, indicating a level of planning and sophistication by the syndicate.
Law enforcement sources confirmed that the suspect has been cooperating with investigators, providing information that is already aiding ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal gang. Officers are currently pursuing leads on additional suspects, suggesting that the operation is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the network responsible for multiple armed attacks and robberies in Sapele and surrounding areas.
The Delta State Police Command praised the efforts of the CP-SAT operatives, highlighting their tactical efficiency, disciplined approach, and close collaboration with the local community in achieving the arrest. Authorities emphasized that community vigilance remains a crucial component in combating criminal activity, noting that tips from residents were instrumental in locating the suspect and recovering the concealed firearm.
Residents of Sapele have been reassured that the police are committed to restoring public safety and ensuring that criminal elements are swiftly brought to justice. The Command encouraged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities and promised that all information would be treated confidentially, in line with the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across Delta State.
The arrest of Prince Omanure represents a significant step in curbing violent crime in the region and serves as a warning to criminal syndicates that law enforcement agencies are actively monitoring and dismantling illegal operations. With continued cooperation between police officers and the public, authorities aim to reduce criminal activity, safeguard lives, and foster a secure environment where residents can go about their daily lives without fear of armed robbery or other violent crimes.
