Suspected gunmen have attacked a Celestial Church in Uso, within the Owo Local Government Area, abducting worshippers during an early morning service.

The incident occurred in the agrarian community of Uso, located along the Akure–Owo highway, and sparked tension among residents. According to available information, the assailants stormed the church premises around 12:50 a.m. on February 25, 2026, and forcefully took six worshippers to an undisclosed location.

Witnesses said the attackers invaded the church during a service activity and whisked the victims away before fleeing the scene. One of the abducted worshippers reportedly managed to escape shortly after the incident. Families of the victims disclosed that, as of the time of reporting, the kidnappers had not established contact or made any ransom demands.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State said security operatives were promptly deployed following the report. According to him, police personnel, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, mobilized to the area and launched coordinated rescue operations.

He stated that sustained joint efforts led to the successful rescue of one of the kidnapped victims. In addition, a suspected informant connected to the incident has been arrested and is assisting investigators.

Security operations are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and provide credible information that could aid the rescue efforts and investigation.
