A helicopter operated by the Iranian Army’s Air Force crashed on Tuesday into a busy fruit market in the central province of Isfahan, resulting in the deaths of four people.
The victims included the pilot and co-pilot of the aircraft, as well as two fruit vendors who were on the ground at the time of the incident. Authorities said preliminary findings indicate that the crash was caused by a technical malfunction, though investigations are expected to continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
The tragic incident occurred in the city of Khomeynishahr, located within Isfahan province. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as the helicopter went down in the crowded marketplace, causing significant disruption and drawing emergency responders to the area. Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene, but all four victims were confirmed dead.
Iran has faced a series of aviation incidents in recent years, often attributed to the ageing condition of its aircraft fleet. Officials have repeatedly highlighted the challenges posed by international sanctions, which they say have made it difficult to obtain spare parts and carry out proper maintenance on military and civilian aircraft.
The latest crash adds to growing concerns about aviation safety in the country, particularly involving older aircraft that require regular technical support and upgrades to remain operational. Investigations into the Isfahan crash are ongoing, with authorities expected to release further details once a full assessment has been completed.
