The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 62-year-old woman at the Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ibadan, where they are assisting detectives with ongoing investigations.

Police authorities disclosed that the incident came to light after a Good Samaritan discovered the lifeless body of the woman along a bush path within the community and promptly alerted the authorities. Upon receiving the report, detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Preliminary findings revealed that the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck. Investigators further observed that the body appeared to have been at the location for several days before it was discovered, suggesting that the crime may have occurred about a week earlier.

The remains were subsequently evacuated to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to scientifically determine the exact cause and circumstances of death. The crime scene was cordoned off to prevent contamination, while forensic experts were deployed to collect and analyse evidence that could assist in identifying all those involved in the crime.

In line with standard investigative procedures and to ensure a thorough and discreet probe, the case was transferred to the State CID. Police authorities stated that preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects, both residents of the Ori-Apata area of Ido. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend any other individuals who may have played a role in the incident.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, visited the affected community alongside a delegation from the state government to assess the situation and express condolences to the bereaved family. During the visit, he assured residents that the command would pursue the case diligently and ensure that justice is served.

The CP also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate necessary security deployments to maintain peace and prevent any breakdown of law and order in the area. In response, joint patrols involving the police and other security agencies have been intensified across the community and adjoining locations.

Operational assets and tactical teams have been strategically deployed to enhance visibility policing, reassure residents and deter criminal activity. The command appealed to members of the public, particularly the family of the deceased and concerned residents, to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Police authorities reiterated their commitment to leaving no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Residents were encouraged to provide credible and useful information that could aid investigators as efforts continue to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
