Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has rewarded a primary school teacher, Mr. Solanke Francis Taiwo of Ansa-Ur-Deen Main School I, Kemta Lawa, Abeokuta, with a brand new car after he emerged as Nigeria’s Overall Best Primary School Teacher.

The presentation of the car keys took place at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, including the Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Arigbagbu, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Oloko.

The recognition follows Mr. Solanke’s outstanding performance at the national level, having previously won a top teaching award before clinching the overall best position in the country. The gesture by the state government is aimed at celebrating excellence and encouraging dedication within the teaching profession.

Speaking at the presentation, the Commissioner for Education described the award as evidence of the administration’s sustained commitment to revitalising the education sector. He noted that consistent reforms, strategic investment, and a focus on quality delivery have continued to yield positive outcomes for the state.

He stated that the repeated emergence of Ogun teachers as top performers in national competitions demonstrates that the recognition is based on merit and measurable impact. According to him, the achievement reflects broader improvements across the state’s education system and reinforces Ogun’s reputation for strong academic performance.

The commissioner also highlighted the state’s track record in academic competitions, particularly in science and technology-related contests, where students have secured multiple awards in recent years. He attributed such successes to deliberate policies implemented over the past several years to strengthen teaching standards, student engagement, and infrastructure development.

On technical and vocational education, he disclosed that several states have expressed interest in studying Ogun’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training model, as well as its approach to digitising the education sector. He added that the state’s initiatives in these areas have drawn commendation from relevant federal authorities and regulatory bodies.

The governor’s gesture to Mr. Solanke was described as both a reward for excellence and a motivation for other teachers to strive for outstanding performance in their professional duties.
