Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday met with former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd.), at his hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.

Atiku arrived at the Minna Airport at about 1:30 p.m. and proceeded directly to Babangida’s residence. Governor Makinde arrived later at about 2:10 p.m. He was accompanied by leaders and stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including the party’s governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Baba Agaie; former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Senator Ben Obi; and the Niger State ADC Chairman, Musa Hassan, among other party members.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Atiku said his visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the ADC’s structure across the country, stressing that the meeting was not related to any presidential ambition for the 2027 elections.

“I am a member of ADC, and we are working to ensure that our party structures are firmly established from the ward level to the national level. We are mobilising and registering members,” Atiku said.

He added, “This is not the first time I am visiting Babangida. I came to pay my respects. The issue of contesting in the 2027 election did not arise.”

Atiku also reiterated his support for the electronic transmission of election results, saying it would reduce confusion and enhance transparency in the electoral process. He noted that Nigerians had expected real-time electronic transmission during the last general elections but were faced with a mix of electronic and manual uploads.

He urged opposition political parties to unite and challenge the Senate’s decision favouring manual uploading of election results, insisting that Nigerians prefer a real-time electronic transmission system.

Governor Makinde, however, did not address journalists after the meeting. He remained inside the residence after Atiku’s departure, with aides describing his visit as private. He later left the premises about 30 minutes after Atiku.
