The United States has added 18 Nigerians to its deportation list, bringing the total number of Nigerians slated for removal to 97.
This was disclosed in a statement published by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which said the arrests were part of a coordinated nationwide crackdown by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to the DHS, the newly added individuals were identified under its intensified enforcement programme targeting immigrants convicted of serious criminal offences. The operation was described as focusing on the “worst-of-the-worst” criminal offenders.
The agency said the alleged crimes linked to the affected Nigerians include wire fraud, mail fraud, and identity theft, offences it noted pose serious financial and security threats.
The statement noted:
“Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, the men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations, starting with the worst of the worst.”
Among the 18 Nigerians newly listed are Oluwaseyanu Afolabi, Olugbeminiyi Aderibigbe, Benjamin Ifebajo, Obinwanne Okeke, Kolawole Aminu, Oluwadamilola Ojo, Franklin Ibeabuchi, Alex Ogunshakin, Joshua Ineh, Stephen Oseghale, Eghosa Obaretin, Adesina Lasisi, Ibrahim Ijaoba, Azeez Yinusa, Charles Akabuogu, Kelechi Umeh, Lotenna Umeadi, Donald Ehie, and Chukwudi Kalu.
The DHS said the deportations would be carried out in accordance with U.S. immigration laws.
The latest development follows an earlier list of 79 Nigerians already marked for deportation, as the U.S. continues stricter immigration enforcement policies since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025.
