The Senate has appointed 12 of its members to collaborate with the House of Representatives on the proposed Electoral Amendment Act, amid ongoing public debate over key provisions in the bill.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the composition of the Senate delegation on Tuesday during an emergency plenary session at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Among the prominent lawmakers named to the committee are former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Tahir Mungono.

The joint committee is expected to work with members of the House of Representatives to reconcile differences and produce a harmonised version of the Electoral Amendment Bill for final passage.

The amendment has generated significant national attention, particularly following controversies surrounding provisions such as the electronic transmission of election results, which has drawn criticism from opposition parties, civil society organisations, and electoral reform advocates.

Further details regarding the full list of committee members and their specific mandate are expected to be released in due course.
