Turaki-Led PDP Faction to Appeal Ibadan Court Ruling

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki announced it will appeal Friday’s ruling by the Federal Court in Ibadan. The court had rejected the group’s request for a mandamus (an order establishing wrongful detention).

The court ruled that granting the mandamus would be tantamount to appealing decisions made by the same court—a position the faction described as “predictable.”

In a statement released by PDP National Communications Secretary Ini Ememobong, Turaki’s faction said it had instructed its legal team to file an immediate appeal and pursue all legal avenues to protect its interests.

Despite the ruling, the faction insisted that the leadership elected at the National Convention in Ibadan remains legally intact and unaffected.

The party expressed confidence that the appeals courts would uphold its position and called on its members to remain calm and steadfast.

“There is absolutely no cause for concern. The renewal movement continues,” the statement read.

This development is the latest episode in the power struggle within the PDP, in which rival factions are seeking judicial confirmation of their legitimacy.

As the case is now before the appeals courts, party members and observers should follow the proceedings closely, given the potential consequences for the party structure and its future political commitments.

Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has reacted to Friday’s court ruling, describing the judgment as contradictory.

In the latest development in the party’s prolonged internal crisis, the court also restrained Turaki and others from parading themselves as national officers of the PDP.

Speaking during a phone interview with Almond FM News, the Oyo State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Michael Ogunsina, said a Federal High Court cannot sit as an appellate court over another High Court.

He assured party members and supporters in Oyo State and across the country that there was no cause for alarm, adding that the Turaki-led faction would proceed to the Court of Appeal and, if necessary, the Supreme Court.
