Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has warned that schools will be the next targets of government sanctions if they fail to comply with the ban on the Monday sit-at-home in the state.

The governor issued the warning on Wednesday while addressing journalists, expressing displeasure over continued compliance with the sit-at-home order despite repeated government directives to disregard it.

Soludo said his administration would not allow a system where children attend school for only four days a week, stressing that such a practice is unacceptable in a modern society.

According to him, any private school that remains closed on Mondays risks being shut down by the government, noting that approval to operate schools in Anambra comes with the obligation to run from Monday to Friday.

He explained that the government’s actions are aimed at protecting the state’s economy, safeguarding the future of children, and easing the hardship faced by traders, farmers and other residents whose livelihoods depend on open markets and uninterrupted activities.

Soludo added that Anambra must project itself as a state open for business throughout the workweek, assuring investors that the state operates a full five- or six-day economic cycle, not a four-day one.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to end the sit-at-home practice, describing it as harmful to education, economic growth and long-term development in the state.
