The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate allegations of financial inducement levelled against the Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin.
The allegation was raised during plenary on Tuesday by Ibrahim Shittu, a lawmaker representing Saki West constituency. Adedoyin, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), represents Ogbomoso South, while Shittu belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaker of the House, Adebowale Ogundoyin, said the committee has been given one week to investigate the allegation and submit its report.
Speaking on the floor of the House, Adedoyin denied the claim, stating that Shittu had wrongly accused him of collecting bribes from the Chairman of Saki West Local Government to influence an investigation into allegations against the council chairman.
“In that speech, I was falsely accused of offering and receiving bribes from the Chairman of Saki West Local Government to influence or alter the course of an investigation into allegations against him,” Adedoyin said.
The Speaker cautioned lawmakers against making unsubstantiated allegations and stressed the importance of due process. He thereafter directed the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges to conduct a thorough investigation and report back to the Assembly within one week.
