The Federal Government has announced that all group-stage bonuses due to players of the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations have been released and are expected to reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts within hours.

The confirmation was given by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, amid reports that members of the national team were considering boycotting training sessions and could refuse to travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final match against Algeria over unpaid allowances.

In a statement posted on her official X handle, Uzoka-Anite said the issue of bonus payments had been resolved through coordinated efforts between the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined processes to ensure faster and more predictable disbursements in line with international best practices,” she stated.

According to the minister, all bonuses earned by the Super Eagles during the group stage of the tournament had already been processed and cleared through the required regulatory procedures.

“All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now passed the necessary regulatory stages,” she said.

Uzoka-Anite further disclosed that a fast-track conversion process had been implemented to accommodate the players’ preference for foreign currency payments.

“We have introduced a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, in line with the players’ preferences,” she added.

She noted that the final phase of the payment process was already underway, explaining that transfers to players’ domiciliary accounts were in progress and expected to reflect by Thursday or Friday.

The minister stressed that the welfare and morale of the national team remained a priority as the competition enters the knockout phase.

“Our focus remains on supporting the team so they can maintain their momentum in the knockout rounds. We are committed to ensuring that off-field issues do not distract the players from their performance on the pitch,” she said.

The announcement is expected to ease tensions surrounding the Super Eagles’ preparations ahead of their quarter-final fixture as they continue their AFCON 2025 campaign.
