The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the commencement of the 2026 Batch “A” Stream I Orientation Course, which will commence nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

According to the program management, the orientation exercise will be held simultaneously in the 37 NYSC orientation camps across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The announcement was made on Tuesday through official communication channels of the NYSC. He said camp registration for prospective corps members opens on Wednesday, January 21 and closes at midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026. During this time, Corps members must report to their assigned camps with original copies of their enlistment letters and other documents required for verification and biometric capture.

The 2026 Stream I Group A Corps members’ swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2026. The three-week orientation program officially ends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, with a closing ceremony at various camps.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged aspiring corps members to plan their trips carefully and ensure they arrive at their camps on time. He advised them to avoid night driving and follow all safety guidelines of the program and relevant authorities.

He further noted that the orientation course is a mandatory and fundamental phase of the year-long National Service Program designed to prepare corps members for community development and national integration.

During the orientation period, participants undergo paramilitary exercises, physical training and citizenship education, and also participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, designed to provide them with practical and employable skills. In addition, conferences on national unity, leadership, security awareness and civic responsibility are organized.

NYSC management stressed that strict adherence to camp rules and schedules was mandatory, warning that late reporting, absences or misconduct could result in sanctions as per program regulations.

Established in 1973, the NYSC program remains an important national institution created to promote unity, promote intercultural understanding and encourage the participation of young people in national development across ethnic, religious and regional boundaries.
