Manchester United have confirmed the departure of head coach Ruben Amorim, bringing an end to his spell at Old Trafford less than a year after his appointment.

Amorim, who took charge in November 2024, leaves the club after guiding the team to the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May. Despite that European run, United currently sit sixth in the Premier League.

The club said the decision was made in the belief that a change in leadership would give the team the best chance of achieving the highest possible league finish this season.

In a brief statement, Manchester United expressed their appreciation to the Portuguese coach for his efforts and wished him success in the future.

Darren Fletcher has been appointed as interim head coach and will take charge of the team for Wednesday’s Premier League fixture against Burnley.
