The House of Representatives has assured Nigerians that appropriate corrective measures will be taken where procedural or administrative refinements are identified in the recently passed tax laws.
In a statement on Friday, the House spokesman, Akintunde Rotimi, said the leadership of the National Assembly has directed the Clerk to re-gazette four tax laws and issue Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the versions duly passed by both chambers.
The affected laws are:
-
Nigeria Tax Act, 2025
-
Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025
-
Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025
-
Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025
Rotimi explained that public concerns had been raised about harmonisation between Senate and House versions, documents transmitted for presidential assent, and the versions published in the Official Gazette.
To address this, the House constituted a seven-member ad hoc committee last week, alongside relevant committees, to conduct an institutional review of the legislative and administrative processes involved. The review will examine any lapses, irregularities, or external interference, in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Acts Authentication Act, standing orders of both chambers, and established parliamentary practice.
He stressed that the re-gazetting is purely administrative, aimed at authenticating and accurately reflecting the legislative decisions of the National Assembly, and does not concede any defect in legislative authority.
“The review is strictly confined to institutional processes and procedures,” Rotimi said, adding that it is without prejudice to the powers of other arms of government or any existing legal processes.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to constitutionalism, due process, separation of powers, transparency, and accountability, urging the public to allow the institutional review to proceed without speculation.
