The House of Representatives has assured Nigerians that appropriate corrective measures will be taken where procedural or administrative refinements are identified in the recently passed tax laws.

In a statement on Friday, the House spokesman, Akintunde Rotimi, said the leadership of the National Assembly has directed the Clerk to re-gazette four tax laws and issue Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the versions duly passed by both chambers.

The affected laws are:

  • Nigeria Tax Act, 2025

  • Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025

  • Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025

  • Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025

Rotimi explained that public concerns had been raised about harmonisation between Senate and House versions, documents transmitted for presidential assent, and the versions published in the Official Gazette.

To address this, the House constituted a seven-member ad hoc committee last week, alongside relevant committees, to conduct an institutional review of the legislative and administrative processes involved. The review will examine any lapses, irregularities, or external interference, in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Acts Authentication Act, standing orders of both chambers, and established parliamentary practice.

He stressed that the re-gazetting is purely administrative, aimed at authenticating and accurately reflecting the legislative decisions of the National Assembly, and does not concede any defect in legislative authority.

“The review is strictly confined to institutional processes and procedures,” Rotimi said, adding that it is without prejudice to the powers of other arms of government or any existing legal processes.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to constitutionalism, due process, separation of powers, transparency, and accountability, urging the public to allow the institutional review to proceed without speculation.

The House of Representatives has assured Nigerians that it will take appropriate corrective steps where any procedural or administrative issues are identified in the recently passed tax laws.

In a statement, the House spokesperson, Akintunde Rotimi, said the leadership of the National Assembly has directed the Clerk to re-gazette the four tax laws passed by both chambers and issue Certified True Copies of the versions duly approved.

The laws involved are the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.

Rotimi explained that concerns had been raised about the harmonisation of the bills passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives, the documents transmitted for presidential assent, and the versions later published in the Official Gazette.

He said the House had already set up a seven-member ad hoc committee, along with other relevant committees, to carry out an institutional review of the legislative and administrative processes surrounding the laws. The review will examine the sequence of events and identify any lapses, irregularities, or external interference, in line with the Constitution, the Acts Authentication Act, and established parliamentary procedures.

According to him, the decision to re-gazette the laws is an administrative step aimed at ensuring accuracy and protecting the integrity of the legislative record. He stressed that the review does not imply any defect in the exercise of legislative authority by the National Assembly.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to constitutionalism, due process, transparency, and accountability, and urged the public to allow the review process to proceed without speculation.
