The Oyo State Police Command has issued a security advisory to residents ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, said all religious and festive gatherings during the period must be held in open and publicly accessible locations to allow security agencies to respond swiftly in the event of emergencies.

He warned that events should not be organised in secluded areas without prior notification to relevant security authorities, stressing that the directive is necessary to ensure effective monitoring and the safety of lives and property.

The police spokesperson reiterated that the unauthorised storage, sale, distribution and use of fireworks remain prohibited, noting that such activities pose serious safety risks and could lead to accidents and injuries. He said violators would face strict penalties, as the protection of lives and property during the festive season remains a top priority.

He also reminded residents that the ban on the unauthorised use of sirens, revolving lights and covered number plates is still in force, adding that offenders would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Osifeso disclosed that the Command has intensified security arrangements across the state in anticipation of increased movement and activities during the holidays. According to him, additional officers have been deployed to strategic locations, including markets, public places and worship centres, to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

He assured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the festive period, calling on residents to embrace unity, cooperation and lawfulness to ensure a peaceful celebration across the state.
