The Niger State Police Command has reiterated its ban on the use of fireworks during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, warning residents that the restriction remains in force.

The State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, also assured the public of prompt police response in the event of any security incident during the festive period.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Wasiu, the commissioner said adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful celebration across the state.

According to the statement, police personnel and operational assets have been deployed to strategic locations, including places of worship, recreational centres, amusement parks, motor parks and major highways, to provide effective security before, during and after the festive season.

Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been directed to ensure full coverage of public spaces, while officers are to strictly adhere to the operational order for the period. The commissioner also emphasised the need for intelligence-led and high-visibility policing, with due respect for human rights, to guarantee the safety of residents and travellers.

The police said the measures are complemented by joint show-of-force patrols under Operation Flush, as well as continuous raids of identified black spots, as part of proactive crime prevention strategies.

The command urged residents and Christian faithful to celebrate responsibly, remain law-abiding and stay vigilant, while encouraging members of the public to support security agencies with credible information to maintain a safe and secure environment throughout the festive season.
