The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The confirmations followed their nominations by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and were fast-tracked by the Senate to ensure continuity in the regulation of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
Eyesan, a petroleum economist, brings over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas sector. He has served in various capacities within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its subsidiaries, with a strong professional background in upstream petroleum operations.
Mohammed, a chemical engineer, is noted for his extensive experience in refining, gas management, and energy policy formulation. He has previously held several strategic leadership positions across the petroleum industry.
The confirmations come amid recent leadership transitions within the sector’s regulatory agencies, as part of broader efforts to strengthen oversight and improve operational efficiency across the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the petroleum value chain, in line with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Both officials are expected to play central roles in enhancing investor confidence, enforcing regulatory compliance, and advancing domestic refining capacity and gas development in Nigeria.
