The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed 4,000 personnel across Abuja to ensure a peaceful Yuletide celebration.

The deployment was ordered by the FCT Commandant of the corps, Olusola Odumosu, as part of measures to safeguard lives and property and protect critical national assets and infrastructure before, during and after the festive period.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the command said the personnel were drawn from various specialised units and strategically stationed across communities within the FCT. These include operatives from the Arms Squad, Crack Squad, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives unit, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and the Agro Rangers.

Security presence has been reinforced at locations considered vulnerable or soft targets, such as churches, shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks and facilities housing critical national assets. Undercover operatives have also been deployed to carry out covert surveillance to prevent emergencies and security breaches.

The corps added that identified black spots, including uncompleted buildings suspected to harbour criminal elements, are under close monitoring. Area commanders and divisional officers have been directed to ensure adequate security coverage within their respective councils, with a warning against any lapses during the festive season.

The commandant urged officers to conduct themselves professionally, work in synergy with other security agencies and strictly adhere to rules of engagement. He cautioned against harassment, intimidation of residents and accidental discharge of firearms, assuring residents of a safe and secure environment throughout the celebrations.

Residents of the FCT were advised to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, while criminals and vandals were warned to steer clear of critical national assets, as patrol teams and covert operatives are fully deployed across the territory.
