Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has directed all political appointees and office holders in the state who intend to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before December 18.
The directive was conveyed in a statement signed by the Deputy Governor, Sam Ode, and released on Tuesday. The governor said the decision followed the rising level of political activities and aspirations among appointees seeking elective offices.
According to the statement, any political appointee interested in contesting an elective position is required to formally indicate such interest by submitting a resignation letter. The letters, along with expressions of interest specifying the desired elective office, are to be forwarded to the Office of the Deputy Governor no later than Thursday, December 18, 2025.
The statement explained that the submissions would be transmitted to the governor for further consideration and necessary action.
The state government urged affected appointees to treat the directive with urgency, noting that compliance would help ensure orderly administration and smooth political processes ahead of the next election cycle.
