The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, has commenced the payment of compensation to owners of farmlands affected by the construction of Section 3A of the Coastal Highway in Okobo, Nsit Atai, and Uruan Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.
This was disclosed in a notice signed by the Controller of the Federal Ministry of Works in Akwa Ibom State, Vincent Okoduwa, and made available to journalists in Uyo on Sunday.
According to the notice, individuals whose farmlands have already been assessed and valued for compensation are advised to visit the Federal Secretariat Complex, Uyo, 1st Floor Conference Room, for verification and data capturing.
Okoduwa also called on landowners whose farmlands are affected by the highway project but have not yet been valued to present themselves for the ongoing verification exercise.
He stated that all affected persons are required to come with a valid means of identification, proof of farmland or property ownership, Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN), and bank account details.
The Controller explained that the verification and compensation exercise is strictly for affected persons from designated communities within Okobo, Nsit Atai, and Uruan Local Government Areas. These communities include Adadia, Akpa Meri Ukim, Anakpa, Atai Odobo, Edik-Ikpa, Ekim Enen, Eweme, Ibete Ndon-Ebom, Ikot Asua, Ifiayong Usuk, Ikot Itie Udung, Ikot Obong, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Akan, Ikot Akpabio, Ikot Antia, Ikot Inyang, Ikot Inyang Esuk, Iwok Nsit, Ikot Otoinyie, Isa Okiuso, Issiet Ekim, Iwok Obio, Mbiakong, and Nda Ikot Apanuma.
Other affected communities listed are Ndon Ebom, Nkimenta, Nsie, Nsit Itie, Nung Atai, Nung Udom Odobo, Okorobo, Ufak Effiong, Usie Uruan, Uta Ukpong, and Ikot Ebok.
Okoduwa noted that the exercise, which began on December 1, 2025, will continue into the early part of 2026. He urged all affected landowners to take advantage of the opportunity to complete the required process and receive their compensation.
