The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the quality of service challenges currently affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja.

The Commission said it is working with key stakeholders and licensed operators to address the disruptions, which have negatively impacted network performance in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the NCC, the service challenges are largely linked to disruptions in diesel supply affecting IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation company responsible for powering base stations used by major operators, including Airtel and MTN, in the affected areas.

The Commission explained that the situation arose following actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel distribution to several telecommunications sites, resulting in service outages across Abuja.

Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring reliable communication services nationwide, the NCC stressed the critical role of stable power supply in delivering optimal telecommunications services. It said it is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to resolve the diesel supply issues and explore sustainable solutions to prevent future disruptions.

The Commission urged all parties involved to cooperate in removing the bottlenecks affecting diesel supply to critical telecommunications infrastructure in order to restore normal service delivery as quickly as possible.

The NCC said it is taking proactive steps to facilitate dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders to promptly resolve the challenges that have impacted service quality. It added that it remains committed to managing the situation effectively and will keep the public informed on progress toward full restoration of telecommunications services in Abuja.

The Commission also thanked subscribers for their patience and understanding, while reaffirming its dedication to delivering high-quality telecommunications services across the country.
