The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has attributed the significant progress recorded in the solid minerals sector to the digital reforms introduced under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration over the past two and a half years.
Alake made this known in Abuja during the inauguration of the OneGov Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) at the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), a key agency under the Ministry. He described the development as a major breakthrough that reflects renewed efficiency, transparency, and progress within the sector.
According to the Minister, the adoption of digital systems has driven unprecedented growth in revenue generation, enhanced operational efficiency, improved transparency, and elevated Nigeria’s global standing in the solid minerals industry. He said the reforms mark a decisive shift in the administration’s approach to managing the sector.
Alake disclosed that government revenue from the solid minerals sector has increased significantly since the introduction of digitisation, stricter policy enforcement, and improved licensing processes. He said revenue, which stood at about ₦6 billion when the administration assumed office, doubled within a year and has continued to rise sharply.
He further revealed that sector revenue grew from ₦28 billion in 2024 to over ₦50 billion in 2025, attributing the surge to transparency-driven reforms, digitisation, and stronger oversight mechanisms. The Minister commended the Mining Cadastre Office for eliminating operational bottlenecks, accelerating service delivery, and restoring investor confidence.
Alake praised the leadership of the MCO for combining innovation with discipline and strong administrative structure, noting that these qualities have positioned the agency as a model within the public service. He also commended Galaxy Backbone for providing the digital infrastructure powering the OneGov system, while urging sustained internet connectivity to avoid workflow disruptions.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Faruk Yusuf Yabo, described the MCO’s achievement as a demonstration of exemplary leadership and commitment to modernization. He noted that as the first agency under the Ministry to deploy the OneGov system, the MCO has set a benchmark for others to follow.
Yabo emphasized that the OneGov platform goes beyond automation, describing it as a secure and intelligent digital backbone capable of transforming governance and improving service delivery to citizens and investors.
The Director General of the Mining Cadastre Office, Obadiah Simon Nkom, described the launch as a historic milestone for government efficiency, noting that the agency’s digital transformation has earned national recognition. He disclosed that MCO revenue increased from ₦6.17 billion in 2023 to ₦12 billion in 2024, and has already exceeded ₦30 billion in 2025.
Nkom attributed the growth to sustained reforms, digitisation, improved compliance, and strong support from the Ministry, adding that the achievement represents a milestone not only for the mining sector but for the country as a whole.
The Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Gana Nsuba, also praised the MCO for aligning with the Federal Government’s OneGov Cloud agenda, describing the agency as a clear example of how leadership, collaboration, and digital innovation can transform public sector performance.
