President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye as the Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, for another four-year term.
A statement issued by the hospital’s Director of Administration, Dr. Adeyinka Antwi, said the new term takes effect from June 1, 2025. Owoeye’s initial tenure ended on May 31, 2025, after which he continued in an acting capacity pending formal approval from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
Owoeye, the most senior consultant in the hospital with more than 20 years of service, graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1994. He qualified as a psychiatrist in 2003 and later obtained a Master’s degree and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Lagos in 2005 and 2009.
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association, Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Psychological Association, Nigerian Institute of Management, and the International Certified Addiction Professional group.
Over the years, Owoeye has chaired multiple committees focused on strengthening mental health service delivery. He has also received several research grants, authored more than 30 publications and a book, and participated in numerous local and international trainings and conferences.
