The Police Service Commission, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has announced the commencement of the recruitment of 50,000 constables, following approval by President Bola Tinubu.
According to the PSC, the exercise aligns with the President’s directive to strengthen community policing, enhance internal security, and expand the manpower of the police. The move comes after Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency on November 26, 2025, ordering security agencies to urgently recruit additional personnel to address rising insecurity.
In a statement on Thursday, the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, said the recruitment portal will be open to qualified Nigerians from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026.
Kalu explained that applicants for the General Duty cadre must possess GCE O’ Level, SSCE/NECO or equivalent qualifications with at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings. Candidates for the Specialists cadre are expected to have a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, alongside at least three years of experience and relevant trade test certifications.
He added that all applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. General Duty applicants are required to be between 18 and 25 years old, while Specialist applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old. Minimum height requirements are 1.67 metres for men and 1.64 metres for women. All applications are to be submitted online through the official portal.
