Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, has called on women across the state to uphold the spirit of giving, strengthen family bonds and continue championing peaceful communities as the year 2025 winds down.
Speaking in Ibadan at the 2025 End-of-the-Year and Christmas Women’s Party, Mrs. Makinde—represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Ajibola Lawal—commended Oyo women for their resilience throughout the year. She noted that their strength and contributions have helped sustain communities in business, public service, agriculture, and family life.
Mrs. Makinde described Oyo women as “the heartbeat of the state,” saying their sacrifices keep the wheels of progress turning. She added that the annual celebration was not just a social event but a moment to reflect on their vital roles in families and society.
She restated her commitment to creating platforms where women can bond, share experiences, and feel valued. According to her, Christmas provides an opportunity to reflect on the year’s blessings while embracing hope for the coming year.
“Women have the power to nurture, uplift, and shape future generations,” she said. “The values we instill in our homes—patience, humility, compassion, discipline—are the same values that shape our communities and our state. When families are peaceful, communities are peaceful, and the entire state enjoys stability and progress.”
Mrs. Makinde encouraged women to rekindle the true essence of Christmas by showing generosity and compassion, noting that simple acts of kindness can transform lives. She also extended warm wishes to families across the state, praying that the festive season brings peace, prosperity, and lasting joy.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, praised the First Lady for consistently championing the welfare of women and fostering unity and sisterhood. She commended Oyo women for their contributions across various sectors and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing policies that ensure safety, dignity and economic empowerment for women.
Highlights of the event included the distribution of food items and cash to women from all 33 local government areas, aimed at easing economic pressures and supporting households during the festive season.
