Barely 16 hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke formally defected to the Accord Party, the party’s national leadership has cleared him to contest in its gubernatorial primary.
His swift clearance reflects the party’s readiness to consolidate around his candidacy ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Adeleke, who moved to Accord alongside his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and several senior aides on Tuesday evening, was screened earlier on Wednesday in a process described as thorough and compliant with all party and electoral guidelines.
According to Elder Ibe Thankgod, Chairman of the Accord Party Screening Committee, Adeleke met every requirement for nomination and participation in the primary.
The committee affirmed him as the sole aspirant for the ticket, finalising all documentation necessary for his candidacy and notifying the relevant regulatory bodies. In addition, the committee presented him with a certificate of clearance, describing him as a credible and prepared contender for the governorship race.
Adeleke expressed appreciation to the committee and the party’s leadership for their confidence in him, stating that he was not only ready for the primary but fully prepared for the 2026 general elections.
He pledged to lead the party to victory, declaring that success was assured by God’s grace. His swift acceptance into the Accord Party and immediate readiness for the primary underline the momentum building around his new political platform as the state moves closer to another competitive election cycle.
