The Government of Burkina Faso has announced that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) C-130 aircraft carrying 11 military personnel was compelled to land in the country on Monday after allegedly violating Burkinabe airspace.
The incident was disclosed through a statement issued by the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) and published by the state-run Agence d’Information du Burkina.
According to the translated statement, the aircraft “was forced to land today, December 8, 2025, in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, following an in-flight emergency while operating in Burkinabe airspace.”
The aircraft reportedly had two crew members and nine passengers, all identified as Nigerian military personnel.
Burkinabe authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that the Nigerian aircraft did not possess the required authorisation to fly over the country. The AES described this as a breach of sovereignty.
“The Confederation of Sahel States condemns with the utmost firmness this violation of its airspace and the sovereignty of its member States,” the statement read.
The regional body further warned that air and anti-aircraft defence systems across AES territories had been placed on maximum alert and were “authorised to neutralise any aircraft that would violate the Confederate space.”
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Nigerian Air Force or the Federal Government regarding the incident.
