A Chinese expatriate kidnapped over three months ago at the BUA Cement Plant in Okpella, Edo State, has regained his freedom.

The victim, identified simply as Mr. Wang, was abducted on September 5, 2025, during an attack by gunmen who killed eight operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, the expatriate was released on December 2, 2025, at about 11:30 p.m. in Kabba, Kogi State.

Yamu said the rescue followed sustained technical and tactical operations carried out jointly by the Edo and Kogi State Police Commands, with support from vigilante groups and local hunters. He commended all partners involved in the operation.

The police did not disclose whether any ransom was paid to secure the victim’s release.

It was gathered that Mr. Wang departed Nigeria shortly after his release and has since returned to China.

The Command has yet to provide an update on efforts to apprehend the kidnappers behind the attack.
