JUST IN: Senate set to screen Defence Minister nominee General Musa

The Senate has commenced the screening process for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nominee for Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd).

This follows the reading of the President’s nomination letter by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday. Akpabio announced that the screening exercise would begin immediately.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele subsequently moved a motion to suspend relevant rules to allow the nominee, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, Defence Ministry officials, and accompanying senior military officers into the chamber.

Bamidele further disclosed that the main screening session would take place behind closed doors, after the nominee gives his introductory remarks in open session.

General Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, is expected to brief lawmakers on his security experience, reform agenda, and proposed strategies for addressing Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
