The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has taken a new turn as Governor Ademola Adeleke is set to formally defect to Accord (A) next week.

This development comes amid heightened internal disputes that culminated in the emergence of Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2026 election.

The primary election, held on Tuesday at the Adolak Event Centre in Osogbo under heavy security, had 990 delegates expected, but only 957 were accredited for the exercise.

Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, Humphrey Abba, disclosed before voting commenced that the party received two nomination forms—from Governor Adeleke and Adebayo Adedamola.

However, Abba noted that “a few hours to the primary, Adeleke dumped the party,” a move that deepened the leadership crisis within the Osun PDP.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise, which proceeded despite earlier claims by some party leaders that the primary had been postponed.

At the conclusion of voting, Abba announced Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola as the winner, securing 919 votes. He declared 20 votes void.

“The candidate who got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes, and he stands elected and returned,” Abba declared.

Adeleke, who resigned from the PDP earlier this week, is expected to contest the 2026 governorship election under the Accord Party, signalling what could become a major realignment in Osun politics ahead of next year’s poll.
