The House of Representatives will on Wednesday and Thursday vote on a series of constitutional amendment bills as part of efforts to complete the ongoing constitution review process before the end of 2025.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu made the announcement during Tuesday’s plenary session, calling on lawmakers to be present and actively participate in the voting exercise. Kalu, who also serves as the chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, described the upcoming votes as an important milestone in finalising the long-awaited reforms.

According to legislative sources, both chambers of the National Assembly have already reached a joint position on about 44 out of more than 60 amendment proposals presented during zonal public hearings.

Some of the major issues expected to be voted on include the creation of special seats for women, establishment of state police, new state creation requests, indigeneship reforms, and electoral amendments, among others.
