Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Tony Elumelu has announced the cancellation of the 2025 edition of his well-known TOE All-White Christmas Party, originally scheduled for December 23. The decision comes as a mark of respect for six staff members who died in the devastating Afriland Towers fire in September.
The fire, which broke out at the high-rise building on Broad Street in Lagos, left several workers dead and deeply affected the business community.
In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram story, Elumelu and his wife, Awele, said the festive season would be used to honour the memory of the victims and support their grieving families.
He wrote:
“We’ve received so many messages from friends asking about our annual TOE All-White Party on December 23. Your excitement and tradition mean so much to us. However, due to the recent tragic fire incident that claimed precious lives, Awele and I have decided to cancel the party this year.
This season will be dedicated to remembering and honouring those we lost. They remain forever in our hearts.”
The TOE All-White Christmas Party is one of Lagos’ most exclusive social events, known for attracting top entertainers, business leaders, actors, and media personalities. Previous editions have featured global music stars and offered a blend of high-profile networking and festive celebration.
Elumelu assured his guests that the event would return next year, adding:
“We look forward to opening our home to you again with love, laughter, and togetherness on December 23, 2026, by God’s grace. Until then, thank you for your understanding. Wishing you a peaceful and beautiful Christmas.”
His decision has drawn widespread praise, with many commending the couple’s compassion and empathy during a difficult period.
