Personnel of the South West Security Network, Amotekun, have arrested about 40 individuals in the Olodo area of Ibadan following alarms raised by residents over their suspicious movement.
The travellers, who arrived at Saki Garage and Sango Motor Park with several new motorcycles, were initially suspected to be bandits. Their unusual movement prompted residents to alert security operatives.
Following preliminary investigations, authorities confirmed that the individuals were not bandits, but members of the Egede community, returning home after completing their yearly work engagements.
The group was taken to the Amotekun State Headquarters in Dandaru, near the Oyo State Secretariat, for further questioning. The travellers explained that the 30 new motorcycles found in their possession were purchased from their annual savings.
Reports indicate that the individuals were coming from Ede in Osun State and were travelling to their hometowns through the Oke Ogun axis in northern Oyo State.
Meanwhile, operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) are currently profiling the travellers before they are released.
Almond FM reporter, Sola Adekoya, also spoke with a commercial driver from Saki, who said similar mass movements of Egede people are familiar at this time of year. He confirmed that the arrested and profiled individuals fit the usual pattern of seasonal travellers from the community.
