Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). El-Rufai completed his registration and received his membership card at the ADC office in Ungwar Sarki Ward, Kaduna State.
This move marks a significant step in El-Rufai’s political realignment, following his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 10. He had accused the APC leadership of abandoning its founding ideals and becoming unresponsive to internal concerns.
El-Rufai, a key figure in the 2013 opposition merger that produced APC, stated that the party had strayed far from its original vision. He noted that recent developments indicated little willingness among those in control of APC to acknowledge or address the party’s “unhealthy” internal climate.
Prior to joining ADC, El-Rufai had joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) earlier this year, but resigned on November 26, 2025, citing his focus on creating a unified democratic platform capable of offering a credible political alternative to Nigerians.
