Armed bandits have abducted a 16-year-old boy and six young girls from Gidan-Bijimi in Kawu ward, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Gidan-Bijimi lies along the border between Abuja and Kaduna State.

A resident of Kawu, Suleiman Shuaibu, confirmed the incident on Thursday morning, saying the bandits stormed two houses in the community around 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday.

He said the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles, fired sporadically before whisking away the victims — six girls aged 17 to 23, and a 16-year-old boy.

“The call came around 9:53 p.m. that bandits had invaded Gidan-Bijimi and abducted six young girls. Unfortunately, my cousin was among the victims,” Shuaibu said.

He added that local vigilantes attempted to confront the bandits but were overpowered due to the criminals’ superior firepower.

The attack reportedly caused panic, with some residents fleeing the community overnight. As of Thursday morning, no contact had been established with the abductors.

The incident adds to growing security concerns in the border communities between Abuja and Kaduna, where bandit activities have surged in recent months.
