The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved thirteen top management appointments and ten special promotions in a sweeping restructuring aimed at boosting leadership capacity and strengthening operations across the Service. The decisions were reached at the Board’s 64th Regular Meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

The Board said the appointments comply with statutory requirements and reflect the Federal Character provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023. As part of the shake-up, five senior officers were confirmed as Deputy Comptroller-Generals—Baba Imam, Isah Umar, Tijjani Abe, Timi Bomodi and Oluyomi Adebakin—representing various geopolitical zones. Their elevation follows recent retirements and is expected to reinforce strategic decision-making within the Service.

Eight officers were also appointed as Assistant Comptroller-Generals, including C.G. Ogbonna, I. Abba-Aji, G.M. Haruna, E.J. Edelduok, G. Gaura, I. Isyaku, M.S. Shuaibu and M.D. Malah, a move the Board says will improve policy execution and operational coordination nationwide.

In addition, ten officers received special promotions in recognition of exceptional professionalism and contributions to revenue generation and national security. Among them are A.C. Fanyam and G.M. Shidali, promoted to Comptroller of Customs; S. Omofoma, O.A. Oladepo, A.Y. Musa, A. Ogboru and A.A. Maiwada, promoted to Deputy Comptroller; and C.N. Essien and H. Aliyu, promoted to Assistant Comptroller, while A.S. Shofadekan rose to Deputy Superintendent.

The Board described the shake-up as part of ongoing reforms to enhance leadership succession, boost staff morale and position the Customs Service to respond effectively to evolving trade and security challenges, saying the decisions reflect a commitment to building a more efficient and future-ready institution.
